The PTO (power take-off) output shaft is a component for mechanically transmitting engine power and torque. The tractor's power take-off shaft extends from the transmission and hydraulic box of the tractor and is used to drive additional implements that do not have their own drive. An intermediate shaft, also commonly referred to as a PTO shaft, is used to connect the additional implement to the output shaft. The power take-off is most often a splined shaft that can also be mounted at the front of the tractor.
