Brake discs

The tractor brake friction disc is an important element of the braking system that ensures effective and safe braking of the agricultural vehicle. Tractors often work in difficult conditions and under heavy loads, so their braking systems must be extremely durable and reliable.

Construction of the tractor brake friction disc:

  • Material: Tractor brake discs are usually made of durable materials such as cast iron or steel that can withstand high mechanical and thermal loads. Some modern designs also use carbon-ceramic composites, which offer even better thermal performance and durability.
  • Construction: Solid discs: Simple, one-piece discs that are strong enough for standard applications. Ventilated discs: Dual-layer discs with a ventilation space that improves cooling and reduces the risk of overheating during intense work.

Principle of operation of the tractor brake friction disc:

  • Brake Pressure: When the tractor operator presses the brake pedal, hydraulic pressure causes the brake pads to press against the disc surface.
  • Frictional contact: Brake pads, equipped with friction linings, come into contact with the brake disc, creating friction.
  • Slowing the vehicle: Friction between the pads and the disc converts the tractor's kinetic energy into heat, which slows or stops the vehicle.
  • Heat Dissipation: Ventilated brake discs help dissipate heat generated during braking, which prevents overheating and loss of braking performance.
