Expansion tanks play a key role in the cooling system . These are special containers that ensure pressure equalization and the appropriate level of coolant in the tractor engine. When the engine heats up, the coolant expands, which increases its volume. The expansion tank collects excess fluid, preventing it from leaking out, and when the engine cools down and the fluid contracts, the fluid is sucked back into the system.

Expansion tank functions:

• Overheat Protection – Reservoir stores excess fluid when the cooling system is under pressure, preventing leaks that could lead to engine overheating.
• Maintaining system pressure – Allows the cooling system to operate at the proper pressure, improving engine cooling efficiency.
• Preventing air locks – A properly functioning expansion tank helps prevent air from collecting in the cooling system, which can reduce its efficiency.
• Fluid Level Monitoring – Reservoirs are transparent or have indicators that allow you to easily check the coolant level.

Key elements:

• Material : Tanks are most often made of high-temperature-resistant plastic, although metal ones are also available.
• Lid with valve : The reservoirs have lids equipped with pressure valves that prevent damage to the cooling system due to excessive pressure.
• Connecting hoses : Conduct fluid between the reservoir and the rest of the cooling system (radiator and engine).

Symptoms of a damaged expansion tank:

• Coolant leaks .
• Fluid level in the reservoir drops without any visible leaks.
• Engine overheating – these may be the first symptoms that the reservoir is not working properly.
• Visible cracks or damage to the cover .

Replacing the expansion tank:

The reservoirs are fairly easy to replace. Drain the coolant, disconnect the hoses and fittings, then fit a new reservoir and refill the coolant.
