Pedals and levers

The accelerator pedal is a component located inside the vehicle that allows the driver to control the amount of fuel delivered to the engine by adjusting the throttle opening. This is one of the basic elements of the gas control system, which allows you to change the engine speed and control the vehicle's acceleration.

Construction of the gas pedal:

  • Pedal - this is the part that the driver presses with his foot. It is usually located to the right of the brake pedal (on left-hand drive vehicles).
  • Throttle - This is a valve or mechanism that regulates the flow of air and fuel to the engine. The gas pedal is connected to the throttle via a cable or rod, allowing it to be opened and closed.
  • Throttle Cable/Cable - A flexible cable or metal wire that connects to the gas pedal on one side and to the throttle or control mechanism in the carburetor or fuel injector on the other side. The throttle cable/cable transfers the movement of the gas pedal pressure to the throttle, thereby regulating the amount of fuel supplied to the engine.

How does the gas pedal work?

When the driver presses the gas pedal with his foot, the throttle cable or cable is pulled or moved, which causes the throttle to open. Opening the throttle increases the air flow to the engine and at the same time regulates the amount of fuel that is supplied to the air-fuel mixture. This, in turn, increases engine power and allows the vehicle to accelerate.
