PTO with clutch (ED)

A power take-off shaft (PTO) with a clutch is a special type of shaft used in agricultural machinery and other equipment, which is equipped with a clutch mechanism. This mechanism is intended to protect against overloads and mechanical damage and to ensure smoother and safer operation of devices driven by the PTO shaft.

How does the PTO shaft with clutch work?

Construction: The PTO shaft with clutch consists of a traditional shaft that transfers power from the tractor to the working implement, and a clutch mechanism located on the shaft. The clutch mechanism can take many forms, including overrunning clutches, disc clutches, or other advanced mechanisms.

Safety function: The clutch acts as an overload protection mechanism. When the working tool encounters a sudden load or is blocked, the clutch disengages the drive, protecting the PTO shaft, tractor and working tool against damage.

What is a PTO shaft?

The PTO shaft, or Power Take-Off Shaft, is a mechanical device used to transfer power from a tractor or other drive vehicle to various agricultural and industrial machines. The PTO shaft is an indispensable element of many field operations, enabling the effective use of the power of the driving vehicle's engine to power additional equipment.

Features and applications:

The PTO shaft is most often used in agriculture, where it is used to drive machines such as:

• Rotary mowers
• Fertilizer spreaders
• Shredders
• Seeders

Thanks to the PTO shaft, these machines can operate without the need for their own engine, which increases efficiency and saves costs.

Construction and operation:

The PTO shaft consists of several basic elements:

• Drive Shaft: The rotating shaft that transmits power from the tractor engine to the machine.
• Clutch: A mechanism that enables the drive to be engaged and disengaged, allowing the machine to be started and stopped safely.
• Safety Guards: Protective housings that prevent contact with rotating parts, minimizing the risk of accidents.

Power is transmitted by connecting the tractor's drive shaft to the machine's input shaft using joints and connectors. The rotating drive shaft sets the input shaft of the machine in motion, which allows it to operate.

Security:

When using the PTO shaft, it is very important to follow safety rules. Rotating parts of the shaft can pose a serious hazard, so always use protective covers and never touch the shaft while operating. Before starting work, it is also worth checking that all connections are properly attached and that the equipment operates safely.
