Springs

These springs are crucial to the proper functioning of the braking system because they ensure that the brake components return to their original position when the brake is released, reducing wear and ensuring safe driving. Regular maintenance and inspection of these springs is important to ensure that your braking system is functioning properly.

Return springs:

• Disc Brake: In a disc brake system, return springs are used in the brake calipers. They help the brake pads return to their home position when the brake pedal is released, preventing friction and wear on the brake rotor.
• Drum Brake: In drum brake systems, return springs are used to retract the brake shoes when the brake is released. These ensure that the brake shoes do not rub against the brake drum when the brake is not used.

Expansion springs:

• Drum brake: In some drum systems, spreader springs are used between the brake shoes to help spread them apart, increasing braking efficiency. They work together with a spreader mechanism that presses on the shoes when the brake pedal is depressed.

Brake pedal springs:

• Pedal Return Spring: This spring is mounted on the brake pedal and helps return the pedal to its home position when released by the driver. This ensures that the brake pedal does not get stuck in the depressed position.

Springs in the handbrake system:

• Return springs: In the handbrake system, return springs help return the handbrake lever to its home position when the brake is released. On vehicles with a rear-wheel handbrake, these springs also help retract the brake shoes or pads.
