A wedge is an element whose main task is to establish the appropriate position on the shaft. We distinguish two types of wedge connections in which wedges are used:

  • longitudinal wedge connection ( wedge for mounting gears , toothed wheels, hubs on shafts and the like),
  • transverse wedge connection (wedge for connecting shafts, rods, sleeves and the like),

The wedge is mounted in a special groove on the shaft or hub or gear. In addition to positioning and blocking the elements, the wedges also take over part of the load of the contact surface pressure.
