Thermostat failure in the closed position causes engine overheating and is very dangerous for the engine, therefore after the coolant temperature warning light comes on, you should stop work as soon as possible and turn the engine off. A less dangerous situation is when the thermostat fails in the open position because water circulating in a large circuit affects the engine's failure to heat up and this is a failure less dangerous for the engine, but in the long run it also has an adverse effect and is harmful to the engine.
