Connecting rod shells are elements whose main task is to reduce friction at the connection point of the connecting rod with the crankshaft. The acetabular cups are two separable, semi-circular elements that form a circle when put on. The bearing shells (though not all types) also have a small groove or cut through which the lubricant is distributed. The most common reasons for rapid wear of the connecting rod shells are:

• use of oil with incorrect viscosity parameters,
• incorrect mounting of the bearing shells,
• failure to observe the oil change dates,
• low engine oil level,
• overload of the motor, which has not reached the correct temperature,

The first sign of wear of the connecting rod bearings is an unnatural, monotonous clatter coming from the engine. Worn bearing shells must be replaced with new ones as soon as possible, too late replacement of a defective element can cause serious damage to the shaft, connecting rod or engine.
