The gear hydraulic pump is a device responsible for the operation of the rear linkage, additional hydraulically operated equipment, and in modern tractors , the hydraulic pump is responsible for power steering. Using a hydraulic pump, we can control additional functions of an agricultural trailer, flail mower, tiller or TUR front loader. The hydraulic pump operates using the tractor's hydraulic system and is powered by the tractor's drive system (e.g. crankshaft). Hydraulic oil pumped into the pump goes to the high pressure regulating valve, where the excess returns to the gearbox and then goes to the main distributor. Some hydraulic pumps may have additional sections that supply oil under increased pressure to the steering system.

The first signs of a hydraulic pump failure are the lift falling too quickly or problems with trailer control. Most often, the control valve or pump seals fail, and in both cases the pumps can be successfully regenerated.
