The glow plug is mounted in the engine block in such a way that the heating tip is located in the intake manifold chamber. The rapid increase in the temperature of the spark plug tip is caused by the current that flows through the spark plugs when the ignition key is turned to the spark plug heating position. The rapid increase in the temperature of the spark plug tip heats the air, and the heated air drawn further into the engine facilitates ignition and starting of the engine.

A faulty glow plug is a common cause that prevents the engine from starting and the machine from grounding.
