Scarifying involves vertical cutting of the lawn turf. The steel blades of the scarifier cut the matted turf that blocks the growth of fresh green mass on our lawn. By blocking air access through the heavily matted root system, the turf dries out, creating unsightly yellow spots, which ultimately leads to the complete disappearance of the turf. The purpose of scarifying is to remove excess matted grass and moss and to provide the turf with better access to water, nutrients and air. Shallow cutting of the grass with a scarifier also helps reduce the number of pests.
