Connecting rod bearings are elements whose main task is to reduce friction at the point of connection of the connecting rod with the crankshaft. The cups are two separate, semicircular elements that form a circle when put on. The bushings (though not all types) also have a small groove or notch through which the lubricant is dispensed. The most common reasons for the rapid wear of the connecting rod shells are:
- use of oil with incorrect viscosity parameters,
- improper mounting of the bushings,
- failure to comply with oil change intervals,
- low engine oil level,
- overload of the engine that has not reached the correct temperature,
The first signs of wear on the connecting rod shells are an unnatural, steady clatter from the engine. Worn bushings must be replaced with new ones as soon as possible, too late replacement of a defective element may cause serious damage to the shaft, connecting rod or engine.
