The hub is an element of the tractor's running gear to which the wheel is bolted. The hub is placed in the so-called reduction gear and allows the wheel to rotate freely and is responsible for maintaining the wheel in the right position. In tractors of simple construction, the hub is mounted directly on the transmission and drive shaft.

The first signs of wheel hub wear include problems with maintaining the correct driving direction, sometimes combined with loud noise coming from the wheel area, especially noticeable when braking and accelerating the tractor. An extremely worn wheel hub may cause the wheel to block or even detach from the tractor.
