Tractor chipper - how does it work?

These are devices that, as the name suggests, are intended for use in conjunction with agricultural tractors . The tractor chipper works thanks to the connection to the PTO shaft, therefore individual chippers require connection to a tractor with appropriate engine power. Wood crushing machines are widely used in forestry and agriculture. Their use allows for quick, precise and safe processing of even a significant number of trunks and branches.

Basic types of chippers: disc and cylindrical. What are the differences?

In disc chippers , the element that shreds wood is a metal disc/disc with mounted blades (knives). This solution was patented in 1922 by the German inventor Heinrich Wigger. The rotating disc/disk is set perpendicular to the wood fed into the machine (manually or using a conveyor belt). The rotating disc with knives chops them into chips (chips), which are then thrown outside the device through the discharge hopper. By choosing a disc chipper , we obtain fine material of uniform shape and size, which can then be used for mulching, fuel, and the production of chipboards.

Roller chippers are machines designed for quickly processing branches or tree trunks into short pieces. These devices are perfect for forests, parks, orchards and farms. Roller chippers have a completely different shredding mechanism. It is a rotating cylinder with sharp projections (knives) on it. The material we receive is wood cut into pieces approximately 10-16 cm long.

The RT-630R disc chipper is designed for cutting branches with a diameter of up to 12 cm (fresh soft wood).

The cutting mechanism was precisely made to ensure appropriate quality, accuracy and concentricity. This translates into a long service life of the components and the entire device.

The chipper mechanism is equipped with a hydraulic material-taking roller (it has an emergency stop and a reverse gear enabling the material to be withdrawn), which makes work much easier. The chipper is equipped with covers and an emergency switch located on the feed hopper. The outlet chimney is rotatable 360˚ to adjust the direction of wood chips inlet. The solid construction ensures high efficiency and comfort during work. The chipper's drive is transmitted via the tractor's PTO shaft (right-hand rotation). The chipper is equipped with a hydraulic roller, therefore two hydraulic sockets are required in the tractor (input and return). A shaft equipped with a clutch with a shear pin is recommended for the chipper, it is an additional protection for the tractor.

Wood chips are particles of wood with dimensions ranging from a few to several centimeters, they are produced as a result of grinding wood with a chipper or shredder. The resulting material is an ideal natural fertilizer for your garden. You can scatter wood chips on your flower beds or flower beds instead of coniferous bark, which is only suitable for plants that like acidic soil. It is an ideal material that improves soil moisture, limits the growth of weeds, protects against excessive soil heating and sudden rains that only flow off the dry soil. Wood chips are an ideal medium for microorganisms, they will decompose over time, providing our soil with valuable humus.
