Tractor chipper - how does it work?

These are devices that, as the name suggests, are designed to be used in conjunction with agricultural tractors . A tractor chipper works by connecting to the PTO shaft, which is why individual chippers require connection to a tractor with the appropriate engine power. Wood shredding machines are commonly used in forestry and agriculture. Their use allows for quick, precise and safe processing of even a significant number of trunks and branches.

Disc Chipper - Worth Knowing

In disc chippers, the element that shreds wood is a metal disc/disc with mounted blades (knives). This solution was patented in 1922 by German inventor Heinrich Wigger. The rotating disc/disc is set perpendicularly to the wood fed into the machine (manually or by means of a conveyor belt). The rotating disc with knives shreds it into chips (shavings), which are then thrown out of the device through the discharge chute. By choosing a disc chipper , we obtain fine material of uniform shape and size, which can then be used for mulching, for fuel, for the production of chipboard.

The BX-42S chipper works best when shredding branches , tree trunks with a diameter of up to 10 cm, and with offshoots up to 25 cm. The chipper with a three-point suspension system is designed to work with an agricultural tractor with a minimum power of 18 hp.

The material feeding mechanism is manual, the machine has a 50x50 cm feed hopper. The drive is transmitted by the PTO shaft from the tractor's PTO. The produced chips are thrown out through a pipe rotated 360° in relation to the chipper base. A massive disc equipped with 4 double-sided sharpened knives + one counter knife. Additionally, our disc is equipped with breakers (shovels) that crush the obtained chips to a value of 20-50 mm.

Correct selection of a plow for the power and weight of the tractor is key to effective plowing and protection of the drive system against overload. It is assumed that for each plow body (furrow) with a width of approx. 20-25 cm, a mini tractor should have a power of 8 to 12 HP, depending on the soil compactness. For machines with 15-20 HP, the optimal solution is usually a single-furrow plow, while units over 22-25 HP with 4x4 drive can handle a light two-furrow plow. It is also important to set the plowing depth and the pull point, which allows for maintaining a straight path without the need for constant steering correction. Robust agricultural equipment from brands such as Geograss or TRX has been designed to minimize the resistance offered by the soil, which directly translates into lower fuel consumption. Remember that a plow that is too large will cause excessive wheel slip and may lead to premature clutch wear.
