Cardan joint , universal joint or pivot joint is an element whose main task is to transfer the drive and torque from the active shaft to the passive shaft, which may be at a significant angle to each other. Cardan coupling , cross coupling or swing coupling are all correct names for a joint that consists of two fork-shaped elements joined together by a cross joint.
