The wedge, or gear lock, is a component whose primary function is to secure the gear in the correct position on the shaft. There are two types of wedge connections that utilize wedges:
- longitudinal wedge connection ( wedge for mounting gears , toothed wheels, hubs on shafts and the like),
- transverse wedge connection (wedge for connecting shafts, rods, sleeves and the like).
