The clutch pressure plate is the component that connects the gearbox to the engine, and is therefore responsible for transferring torque from the engine, through the gearbox, to the tractor's drivetrain. To simplify this complex process, the clutch pressure plate is responsible for moving the tractor, starting and stopping, and changing speed ratios. The clutch pressure plate consists of a housing, compression springs, and a clutch disc. Its main function is to exert sufficient frictional force on the clutch disc to prevent the two components (pressure plate and disc) from rotating at different speeds.
The clutch disc is the component responsible for transferring power from the engine (crankshaft) to the gearbox (clutch shaft). The disc consists of a splined hub mounted on the clutch shaft and a disc with springs and appropriately thick friction linings. The disc , pressed by the second clutch element, the pressure plate, uses the friction force (the lack of friction during power transfer) of these two elements to propel the tractor. The springs in the clutch discs are responsible for reducing vibrations generated during high engine speeds.

The first signs of a worn clutch include an unusual noise when pressing or releasing the clutch pedal, an unpleasant odor, or a grinding sound from the gearbox. When replacing a clutch, it's recommended to replace all components (disc, pressure plate, bearing) because these components often wear out at the same time.
The first signs of clutch disc wear (wear) are clutch slippage , which makes it difficult or impossible to move the vehicle. The tractor fails to accelerate when the engine speed increases. The clutch disc can also show signs of wear if it is contaminated with oil. It is recommended to replace the disc along with the clutch pressure plate and release bearing, as all these components have comparable durability and wear at the same rate. Another sign of clutch disc wear is the inability to engage a gear.
