Connecting rod bearings are components whose primary function is to reduce friction at the connecting rod's connection to the crankshaft. The bearings are two separate, semicircular elements that, when assembled, form a circle. The bearings also have a small groove or notch through which lubricant is distributed. The most common causes of rapid wear of connecting rod bearings are:

• using oil with incorrect viscosity parameters,
• incorrect installation of bearings,
• failure to comply with oil change deadlines,
• low engine oil level,
• overloading the engine which has not reached the correct temperature,

The first signs of worn connecting rod bearings are an unusual, constant knocking noise coming from the engine. Worn bearings should be replaced as soon as possible; replacing a faulty component too late can cause serious damage to the shaft, connecting rod, or engine.
