Engine valves are components located in the cylinder head (overhead valve engine) or engine block (lower valve engine). Their main function is to properly control the flow of air, the fuel-air mixture, and exhaust gases. There are two types of valves:

• intake valves are responsible for opening the chamber to draw in the appropriate amount of fuel mixture,
• exhaust valves, responsible for removing gases generated during engine operation from the chamber.

The valves consist of a rod with a disc at the end and are fully cast. Engine valves are made of special steel resistant to the extremely high temperatures generated during fuel combustion, known as heat-resistant steel.

Engine valves are components that wear out under harsh operating conditions and high temperatures. The most common valve damage is valve stem wear and carbon buildup. Valve deposits are a result of using low-quality oil, and valve head wear causes leaks and loss of engine power.
