A spacer sleeve (or sleeve) is a component whose primary function is to maintain a specific, predetermined distance between individual parts, components, or assemblies of parts in a mechanical structure. In addition to maintaining a given part in a specific position , a spacer sleeve is responsible for heat transfer (absorption) in engines and mechanical devices, as well as providing resistance to high temperatures and chemicals. There are several types of spacer sleeves available on the market, but most often they are cylindrical metal elements (sometimes hexagonal) made of a resistant metal, copper, or other metal alloy, with a milling cutter (breakaway sleeves) or with grooves or holes that allow for better access of the lubricant to the contact surfaces of the components.
