The engine oil filter is a very important element of the lubrication system and its main task is to clean the oil circulating in the engine system from organic and mineral impurities. The metal, screw-on oil filter is a filter whose main task is to remove the smallest contaminants from the oil, up to 1/50 mm in size. The structure of the filter is very simple and consists of a metal can with thread and a paper insert inside, arranged in the so-called accordion to increase the filtration surface. Contamination of the oil for which we use a filter most often occurs, in the case of organic contaminants, from the breakdown of the oil itself during operation, from fuel residues or from oxidation by-products. Mineral contaminants are air pollutants and metal particles that appear in the engine during operation. The filter is most often mounted on the side of the engine, and a clean, unused oil filter has a direct impact on the operation and life of the engine, fuel consumption, and in extreme cases, a clogged oil filter may lead to engine overheating and damage to the head gasket. Always replace the oil filter together with the oil change at the frequency specified in the machine's operating instructions.
