The clutch pressure plate is the component that connects the gearbox to the engine and is therefore responsible for transmitting torque from the engine, through the gearbox, to the tractor's drive system. Simplifying this whole complex process, the clutch pressure plate is responsible for the tractor's movement, starting off, stopping and changing the driving speed ratios. The pressure plate consists of a housing, pressure springs and a disc, and its main task is to exert sufficient friction force on the clutch disc so that these two elements (pressure plate and disc) do not rotate at different speeds.

The first signs of a worn clutch are an unnatural noise when pressing or releasing the clutch pedal, an unpleasant smell or grinding in the gearbox. When replacing the clutch, it is recommended to replace all components (disc, pressure plate, bearing), because they often wear out at the same rate.

It's best to read the markings on the side of the old V-belt. If they are illegible, measure the belt width and its outer length (La). On Shibaura and Hinomoto tractors, it's important to regularly check the belt tension – too loose a belt will cause slippage and faster wear, while too tight a belt can cause alternator or water pump bearing failure.
