Alternator is a device that converts mechanical energy into electric current, thereby supplying the tractor's electrical system, including the battery. The alternator generates current only while the engine is running and is driven by a V-belt. The first signs of alternator failure are a warning light that does not go out, flickers or does not come on at all - the so-called battery charge light - when the tractor engine's glow plugs are heating. On the other hand, if the light comes on while the tractor is working, it may mean that the alternator is delivering an incorrect voltage to the battery.
