The air conditioning dryer is a filter resembling a metal tube, mounted on the air conditioning ducts between the condenser and the evaporator. The task of the dryer is to remove moisture and impurities from the refrigerant

The most common symptoms of a clogged dryer are:

  • pressure and temperature drop
  • significant decrease in evaporator efficiency
  • lowering the temperature at the filter outlet as well as in the filter itself
  • pressure drop in the evaporator
  • higher suction temperature
  • compression temperature increase
  • irregular compressor operation
  • decrease in cooling efficiency or lack thereof
  • fogged windows
  • unpleasant smell from the air vents

The replacement of the air conditioning dryer should be entrusted to specialized services, because proper performance of this type of repair involves simultaneously filling the refrigerant and checking the system for leaks.  Improper installation may result in damage to the compressor.

It's best to read the markings on the side of the old V-belt. If they are illegible, measure the belt width and its outer length (La). On Shibaura and Hinomoto tractors, it's important to regularly check the belt tension – too loose a belt will cause slippage and faster wear, while too tight a belt can cause alternator or water pump bearing failure.
