Push rod for LS Tractors series U, ULTRA, R, G, XR, XU, MT5 and others.
One of the main components of an engine is the push rods , metal rods connecting the camshaft to the valves. The push rods' job is to transfer the movement of the camshaft to the valves, causing them to open and close at the right time.
Push rods, also known as push rods, are rods with an annular or circular cross-section with mushroom or cup-shaped ends. Push rods are the same for both intake and exhaust valves. It should be noted that exhaust rods are exposed to greater forces, due to the fact that during the opening of the exhaust valve in the combustion chamber there is a higher pressure acting on the valve.
Push rods must be highly resistant to crushing, compression and friction, because they are particularly vulnerable to these forces.
They are most often made of steel rods or tubes, less often of duralumin, and their ends are thickened and reinforced by carburizing or cyanidating. Appropriate reinforcement can prevent damage to the rod, such as deformation in the form of bending.
For large units, exceptionally strong, so-called foldable rods are installed, the middle part is a steel tube, the ends are mounted by pressing in, and the whole thing is made of hardened steel.
