The engine head gasket is a gasket that is installed where the engine head connects to the engine block. The place where the block connects to the head must be tight for proper engine operation. The head gasket is designed to seal the operation of the cylinders, coolant channels and lubrication channels and to separate and prevent mixing of both fluids. The second task of the gasket is thermal insulation, because part of the engine block may heat up from the operating combustion chambers, up to 2000 degrees Celsius.
