Oil seal, Simmerring for LS Tractor tractors of the LS MT1.25 series and others, for:

An oil seal is a rubber ring (also called a Simmerring or Simmer ring, after the name of its inventor), made most often of rubber or another plastic material that meets the required technical specifications. A Simmerring is used to seal rotating elements of a system with a maximum internal pressure of up to 0.1 MPa, which during operation are immersed in, most often, oil, various types of grease, and sometimes petrol or water. The most common application of oil seals is sealing shafts and power transmission systems or machine drives and devices. There are various types of seals; the most common are cassette seals (two-piece), sealing rings with a spring around them, or seals with a partially metal casing (cover). Oil seals prevent leaks of oil or lubricant and prevent contaminants from entering the system.

On Shibaura and Hinomoto tractors, it's important to regularly check the belt tension – too loose a belt will cause slippage and faster wear, while too tight a belt can cause alternator or water pump bearing failure.
