The correct choice of bolt in terms of strength must be made before assembly, because the shape of the bolt and its technical parameters can have a direct impact on the safety and durability of the connection. We distinguish 3 accuracy grades of bolt manufacture, i.e. A, B and C, and 10 strength classes (measured in megapascals): 3.6, 4.6, 4.8, 5.6, 5.8, 6.8, 8.8, 9.8, 10.9, 12.9, where the first digit indicates the tensile strength limit and the second the yield strength relative to the first value (as a percentage). The higher the values, the greater the strength of the bolt, so 3.6 is the lowest quality bolt (low-carbon steel) and 12.9 is the highest strength class (low-alloy steel).
