Die Kupplungsscheibe ist das Bauteil, das für die Kraftübertragung vom Motor (Kurbelwelle) zum Getriebe (Kupplungswelle) verantwortlich ist. Die Scheibe besteht aus einer auf der Kupplungswelle montierten Keilnabe und einer mit Federn und entsprechend dicken Reibbelägen bestückten Scheibe. Die Scheibe wird vom zweiten Kupplungselement, der Druckplatte, angepresst und nutzt die Reibungskraft (die fehlende Reibung bei der Kraftübertragung) dieser beiden Elemente, um den Traktor anzutreiben. Die Federn in den Kupplungsscheiben sorgen für die Reduzierung der bei hohen Motordrehzahlen entstehenden Vibrationen.

Die ersten Anzeichen für Verschleiß (Verschleiß) der Kupplungsscheibe sind ein Durchrutschen der Kupplung , wodurch sich das Fahrzeug nur noch schwer oder gar nicht mehr bewegen lässt. Der Traktor beschleunigt nicht mehr, wenn die Motordrehzahl steigt. Auch die Kupplungsscheibe kann Verschleißerscheinungen aufweisen, wenn sie mit Öl verunreinigt ist. Es empfiehlt sich, die Scheibe zusammen mit der Kupplungsdruckplatte und dem Ausrücklager auszutauschen, da alle diese Komponenten eine vergleichbare Haltbarkeit und Abnutzung aufweisen. Ein weiteres Anzeichen für Verschleiß der Kupplungsscheibe ist das Nichteinlegen eines Gangs.
