The valve guide is an element whose main task is to guide the valve stem and dissipate part of the heat from the valve head to the cylinder head. The valve guide keeps the valve in the correct position while the engine is running and provides the appropriate pressure for proper operation of the valves. The correct position of the valve relative to the valve seat and the greatest possible accuracy of this adjustment is desirable, but it should also be remembered that too little clearance may cause the valve to seize.
