The main engine shells are semi-circular rings that are mounted in special grooves (handles) in the engine block, between the crankshaft (main shaft) and the engine block (applies to the journals of the central shaft) in order to eliminate the play created during engine operation. The main shells bear the shaft, ensuring the correct position of the shaft in relation to the engine block until the generated power is transmitted as smoothly as possible. The first signs of bearing wear are clattering when starting the engine.
