Die Kupplungsscheibe ist das Element, das für die Kraftübertragung vom Motor (Kurbelwelle) zum Getriebe (Kupplungswelle) verantwortlich ist. Die Scheibe besteht aus einer Nabe mit Keilverzahnung, die auf der Kupplungswelle montiert wird, und einer Scheibe mit Federn und Reibbelägen entsprechender Dicke. Die gegen das zweite Element der Kupplung, die Druckplatte, gedrückte Scheibe nutzt die Reibungskraft (keine Reibung im Moment der Antriebsübertragung) dieser beiden Elemente und setzt den Traktor in Bewegung. Die Federn in den Kupplungsscheiben sind für die Reduzierung der Vibrationen bei hohen Motordrehzahlen verantwortlich.

Die ersten Anzeichen von Kupplungsscheibenverschleiß (Verschleiß) sind die sogenannten Durchrutschen der Kupplung , was das Bewegen des Fahrzeugs erschwert oder unmöglich macht und darin besteht, dass der Traktor bei Erhöhung der Motordrehzahl nicht beschleunigt. Die Kupplungsscheibe kann Verschleißerscheinungen aufweisen, auch wenn sie mit Öl verschmutzt ist. Es wird empfohlen, die Scheibe zusammen mit der Kupplungsdruckplatte und dem Ausrücklager auszutauschen, da diese alle eine vergleichbare Haltbarkeit und den gleichen Verschleiß aufweisen. Ein weiteres Anzeichen für den Verschleiß der Kupplungsscheibe ist die Unfähigkeit, einen Gang einzulegen.
